Travelling with a bicycle
Whether it’s your next mountain bike ride or a bicycle tour through the mountains: PostBus will transport you and your bicycle safely and conveniently to your starting point. On this page, you will find all the important information about travelling with your bicycle, mandatory reservations, special bicycles and tickets.
Transporting bicycles – what you need to know
At PostBus, passengers are responsible for loading and transporting their bicycles themselves. On vehicles with rear carriers or trailers, bicycles can be hung in the designated area.
Please note the following points:
-
Bicycle transport on routes that do not require a reservation:
On many routes, you can transport your bicycle without a reservation.
-
No entitlement to bicycle transport:
Due to limited space, transport cannot always be guaranteed. In such cases, you must switch to a later connection.
-
Reservations required on selected routes:
Bicycle reservations are mandatory on selected Postbus tourist routes during the summer season. Your fee guarantees that your bicycle can be transported.
-
Drivers decide:
In case of doubt, the driver will decide whether your bicycle can be carried.
-
Priority and safety:
When space is limited, wheelchairs and buggies always have priority. For safety reasons, bicycles may not be stowed in aisles or in front of entrances and exits.
-
Routes without bicycle transport:
There are routes where bicycle transport is not possible. These are marked with the corresponding pictogram in the online timetable.
Reservations required on selected routes
During the summer season (May to October), bicycle space reservations are mandatory on most tourist routes in certain cantons.
Demand for bicycle transport spaces on these routes has risen steadily in recent years. Reservations are required to avoid disappointment due to a lack of capacity. The benefit for you: you receive a guarantee that your bicycle will be transported.
Reservations are mandatory in the following regions
- Graubünden
- Central Switzerland
- Bernese Oberland, incl. Gurnigel
- Valais
- Some services in French-speaking Switzerland and Eastern Switzerland
Ticino is excluded from the requirement for the time being.
In the online timetable, routes with mandatory reservations are marked with a special bicycle pictogram.
How reservations work
