Interlaken’s electric Postbuses start from the new depot
PostBus has moved and is now managing operations for the Interlaken region from its new depot in Wilderswil. This is the first of its kind in Switzerland. The infrastructure is geared towards electric Postbuses, with the first two now in service and part of the streetscape in Interlaken and the surrounding area.

Big changes are under way at PostBus in the Interlaken area. The Wilderswil depot and the fast charging station at Interlaken West station have been in operation for five months, and now the first electric Postbuses are on the road. Media representatives visited the depot with the garage and offices as well as the new electric Postbuses on 16 May.
The depot, located at Industriestrasse 17 in Wilderswil, has room for 18 Postbuses. 12 parking places are currently equipped with charging stations, with more to follow. The first electric Postbuses were expected in December 2024, but delivery was postponed to the spring due to production constraints at the manufacturer. In response, PostBus temporarily deployed four conventional red-and-white loan buses from Austria in Interlaken. Two electric Postbuses have now arrived in Interlaken, and five more are expected to be delivered by the summer. Electrification in the Bernese Oberland is continuing on an ongoing basis: by the end of 2026, over 30 electric Postbuses will be in use in Interlaken, Spiez and Gstaad. The aim is for all 2,300 Postbuses in Switzerland to be fossil-free by 2035. PostBus uses 100 percent electricity from renewable energy sources to charge the batteries.
The new depot for the Interlaken PostBus network is a first in many respects. Upon its launch in December 2024, it was the first garage designed specifically for electric Postbuses. The second depot was opened in Affoltern am Albis, in the canton of Zurich, in March 2025. Additionally, the PostBus depot in Wilderswil was planned from the outset alongside other providers, so the same building complex also houses leisure providers for indoor and outdoor sports. The official opening ceremony for the center will take place on 21 June.
